Dear lord in heaven, London was bleak this time of year. Maddie had been out scouting locations since midmorning and she had no idea if an hour or if ten had passed, the sky was the same drab, gray color as it had been all day. Fall had never been her favorite time of year, watching the days become shorter and the sun become weaker had always brought a certain melancholy over her. Although it was always nice to bring out her more fabulous long sleeved outfits to wear.
Sighing at the lack of choices and lack of sunlight, the girl gave up on location scouting and walked into a pub, desperate for a drink. Something strong, to bring some color back in her face and warm up her frigid fingers. Booze was always the best choice for that, any attempt to drown out that horrible gray that was starting to overtake her mood. How could anyone possibly live here without succumbing to intense depression, alcoholism, or terrible fashion choices?
Maddie hooked her finger at the bartender, patience never being her strong suit. Especially when it concerned her liquor. "In-and-out martini. Whatever your best gin is." Hopefully it wasn't something too horrendous, but then again she wasn't expecting much. Isn't gin an english creation? Only the english could come up with a drink that tasted so very.. english. It seemed to suit the downcast mood of the pub, of the city.. of England, if she was going to be honest. Maybe she was just too much of an American to ever take to the city, an American Parisian? Absolutely not.
She kept the tab open, knowing she would need more than one drink to sustain her tonight. It took more than one drink to sustain her on a normal night if she was going to be honest. It was always easier, crashing into a bed absolutely hammered made for better sleep, than simply sitting there and staring at the wall all night. Sipping her martini and straightening the fringe on her sleeve, she nodded, satisfied. For the moment.
