Shea woke up to the warm light coming through her window and knew that things right there in that moment was perfection. She picked up her head from his chest and smiled at the still sleeping man next to her.
Tyreese.
He was, indescribable. Everything that she ever wanted, mixed with everything she didn't know she needed. He was warmth and happiness, but also deep and mysterious. She never felt more alive than when she was with him, but she also knew that it would all come crashing down. He would see her soon as who she was, and he would go running from it all. He would find out all about her life before him, be disgusted with her and walk away. Nice guys like him didn't need all of this baggage. Girlfriends with imprisoned ex-boyfriend's and memorial plots for dead babies just didn't get to be loved like this.
Carefully she trailed a kiss along his jaw, both trying to wake him up, and leave him sleep. She wiggled out from his arms and tugged on his button up from the day before. While they still did not know each other in that way, she still preferred to sleep with their skin against each other.
Shea brushed her hair up into a messy bun and slipped through the heavy metal door of her bedroom and down the hall to the kitchen. Her apartment was fashioned after the old warehouse it was in, some exposed brick on the walls, wide open spaces, feminine touches everywhere and an oven filled with off-season shoes. She knew that there were hints to her former life everywhere, but Tyr never seemed to question it.
He never asked about her parents, about former relationships. Her wedding ring from Alex was still in her bedside table, gathering dust but serving a purpose. Shea wanted to remember. She wanted to remember how good people could get swept away by evil actions and lose themselves.
She kept it there so she would know she could never become like Alex, like her parents, like Parker and the others. It would be too simple to fall into the life she had been groomed for, but it just wasn't for her. The blonde flipped on the coffee maker and added some water and grounds to it, curious if Tyr realized she was gone yet.
