She shouldn't have gone home. she should have known better than to return before she absolutely had to. Yet it was a letter from her mother that had drawn Nellie back to the family's secondary home in Leeds. She hadn't understood why her mother was there instead of back in Denver. However, upon arriving, she quickly found out. Her father, Warren, had fallen back into his old habits and his current target happened to be his wife. Patricia hadn't known where else to turn, so there she was. Nellie tried to tell her mother that wasn't the place to go, yet the older woman didn't seem to hear any of her daughter's concerns. Unfortunately for them both, it wasn't hard for Warren to track down where his wife had gone. Upon seeing Patricia, his voice began to boom, yelling at her for having the audacity to leave when he was in the middle of talking to her. Of course, the sixteen year old knew that her father actually meant that he was yelling at his wife, probably preparing to hit her or something. At the moment, Nellie was attempting to make herself smaller, but it seemed that simple movement had been more than enough to gain attention from the man of the Salvatore household.
He addressed her then, his voice laced with such a hatred that the words alone felt like a slap across the face. It was so easy for her to fall back to the pattern of being a victim, especially because of the large stature her father had. Still, Nellie thought of how far she had come in the last year and she pulled her wand out, aiming it at her father. The man had simply laughed. It was a dark, sinister laugh that told her she couldn't have done a worse thing if she tried. Before she knew what was happening, he had disarmed her and was upon her. Everything seemed to happen so fast. The only thing that she really remembered was the pain and the sound of her own screams. After that, everything became dark.
There was no sign of light again, until she woke up. How much time had passed, she couldn't be sure, but as she looked around, Nellie could see the stark white walls and the bright lights were enough to have her closing her eyes again. The moment she opened her mouth, she could feel just how dry it was as well as feel the skin upon her lips cracking. She attempted to speak, but her words came out in a croak, just loud enough to gain the attention one of the healers. The woman came over to check her vitals and offer her a glass of water, with a straw placed in it. "Hey there, sweetie. Those were some serious injuries you sustained. The woman that brought you in disappeared. Is there someone we can call for you?" Nellie wrapped her lips around the straw and greedily drank the water that was provided. It wasn't until the cup was almost empty that she pulled away and settled back against the pillows. Who could they call? Certainly not her parents. She wasn't close with any of her teachers. There was Howl, but she hardly wanted to inconvenience him. After all, they were just having a good time. That was when she thought of him. "D-Daemon Nott. Find him."
The Healer nodded and moved to go summon the boy as Nellie had requested. It wasn't until the woman was out of sight that she lifted the sheet that was covering her body. There were bandages here and there, while a few were lined with red - a sure sign that the healer hadn't been lying when she mentioned the injuries being serious. It was after that when she noticed the splint that was surrounding her arm and she frowned. If there was all this, she could only imagine how awful the rest of her body looked. Instead of dwelling on it further, Nellie set her head back down on the pillow and closed her eyes, letting sleep overtake once more as she waited for someone to get word of where she was.
