Life had changed for McKenna once again but this time it was a welcomed change. Billie had suggested that MK should come and stay with her during the summer instead of staying at Hogwarts all summer long. Of course she was stubborn and politely declined Billie’s generous offer. She didn’t want to be a bother to Billie or her family but her sister kept bringing it up day after day. She knew that Billie would keep asking till she was blue in the face so she finally accepted in fear that her sister might end up hurting herself. Billie of course was over the moon with excitement to get a new sister to help keep her brother’s at bay while she was home for the summer.
She had just finished unpacking all of her boxes when she took a look around the new room. Her room. She has never had a room all to herself before. At Hogwarts she had to share a dorm with other girls and even during the summer there were a few students that stayed there that were paired up with her in a dorm. She was grateful for the change. She could now have a place where she can escape when she wants to be alone. She didn’t have to worry about people trying to have a conversation with her when all she wants is to be left alone. But at that moment, she didn’t want to be alone. She actually wanted human contact and that was rare for the young girl.
She poked her head out from the door frame of her room and noticed how quiet the house was. She tiptoed through the hallway and peered into all the rooms. Everyone was out and she couldn’t help but feel a little bit disappointed. She let out a sigh only to shrug it off. She went back to her room long enough to grab her bag and slip on her boots before she made her way out of the home, locking up behind her. She wasn’t sure what she was doing or where she going but she just let her feet lead the way.
She spent the next hour roaming around Diagon alley and did nothing but window shopped. She hasn’t gotten a summer job yet so she didn’t have much money to spend at the moment. She was perfectly fine with window shopping. She didn’t need fancy things to make her happy, she had her books for that. Suddenly a ice cream parlour caught her attention and figured she could go for a sweet treat. She made her way inside and stepped up to the counter, ordering a waffle cone with two scoops of chocolate ice cream. Once she paid for her order, she took her ice cream in hand and wondered over to a table in the corner. She took a seat and placed down her treat before opening the top of her bag. She shuffle through the contents of her bag before she found the book she was looking for. She leaned back against her seat and opened her book to the bookmarked page, digging her spoon into the ice cream absentmindedly while she began reading where she left off .
