Ian was stuck behind his desk; filing out more paperwork for Salem, when his sister walked in. She was visiting for the day and has been keeping his kids company while he was worked in his office. For a winter break, he hasn’t had much of a break from Salem. It was something that he was use to by now. Since the death of his wife, it seemed like the world was resting on his shoulders. It gave him one heck of a kink in his neck. Ian just glanced up at his sister from behind his reading glasses and gave her a weak smile. “Hey hermana” his voice suggesting that he was worn out. She just gave him a warm smile and walked over to him, taking the papers from his hand and removing his glasses from his face.
Ian just leaned back against his chair and brought his hands up to his face, rubbing at his strained eyes. His sister looking over him with concern. “You need to stop working so hard.” she told him while folding up his glasses and placing them on a tall pile of folders. “I would love too…but I can’t afford too.” He replied only see his sister giving him a stern look. “Look, I want you to go out…away from the house…away from the kids. Do something for yourself for once. I will look after everything here. Just go” Ian opened his mouth to protest only to have his sister hold up her hand to stop him. “No discuta. Sólo tienes que ir” He just sighed and knew better than fight with her.
He spent the next hour getting ready. He took a long hot shower, shaved and styled his goatee, got dressed and was now pulling on his jacket. He didn’t know what he was going to do but he knew that if he didn’t leave that his sister would kick him out of his own house. He kissed all of his kids goodbye and waved as he exited the house. He stood on his porch for a long moment and stared at his muggle car sitting in the drive way. Ian hasn’t driven a car since the accident and he wasn’t about to start now. Instead he closed his eyes and thought of the first place that came to his mind. He now stood outside of the laughing gnome inn and figured he could use a drink.
An hour later he was still sitting at the bar, working on his fifth beer which was half way empty. He had a lovely buzz going for him, but found himself getting bored. He turned on his bar stool and looked around the crowded pub. He didn’t see anybody that he knew off the bat and wasn’t really in the mood to make small talk with random people. He just sighed and turned back to his drink, chugging it down and placing it back on the bar top. “Another.” He said, his works a bit slurred.
