Getting up early to check on Savannah had practically become a routine to Nellie since she and Daemon started dating. He had always insisted that she didn't have to get up, and there were days where he would make sure he was the first one up so that Savannah's cries didn't wake her up. But if Nellie wasn't there picking the little girl up right away in the morning, to change her and feed her, something felt wrong. It almost felt like she was shirking the responsibilities that she had been thrust into having. Of course, Nellie knew that wasn't the case. Daemon always told her that she didn't have to do anything, that Savannah wasn't her responsibility. But wasn't she? Nellie had moved in, taken up the space of the little house, so taking care of her boyfriend's daughter was the least that she could do. Besides, it kind of helped them to be able to bond. She always tried to be done before Daemon would wake up so that he would get up and not have to worry about anything.
Nellie couldn't deny that she loved the days she got to sleep in just as much, though. Even though she wanted to take care of Savannah, there were some days when she just needed the sleep, or the breakfast in bed that Dae would treat her to. It was funny, really. She never would have thought that they would have ended up together. He was a man whore and she was a drug addict with commitment issues. They were things that didn't seem to go together, but they balanced each other out. Artemis had been the first to try and change Daemon, to make him stick to one girl. It had worked for a while, at least until Nellie ended up moving in. And then there were the drugs. Nellie had touched them once since she moved in with Dae and it nearly resulted in her death. The look of desperation on her boyfriend's face was what had her deciding that she couldn't keep doing that. So now, they were both recovering. He was a recovering, though mostly recovered, man whore, and she was a recovering drug addict.
Having Savannah to take care of made this a lot easier for Nellie. It gave her another reason to live, to try and do everything that she could do get better. She finished changing the little girl and scooped her up. "What are we going to wear today, hm? I know grandma is coming to get you in an hour or so. She's probably going to take you out shopping and spoil you like the princess you are," she said with a little laugh. Nellie pulled out one outfit, with a giraffe on it, and grinned when Savannah made a face at it. Okay, that definitely wasn't the one. It took a little bit, but Nellie eventually got the little girl to agree on the shirt that had dogs on it. She knew she should have just started there. "It figures you would pick this. Between Alice, Hatter and Zero, I should have started here." Carefully, she helped the little girl get dressed before placing a kiss to her forehead, not once realizing that she was being watched by the very man that she was trying to let sleep a little longer.
