Hyun Ki looked around the shelves. His dark eyes looked over all the odd and ends. A lot of what he looked at he wasn’t sure what you would use it for, but it was exciting to know that he still had so much to learn.

Though Hyun was in Gajang his introduction to magic before he got to the school was nothing. He would have had more in common with someone who was in Bin. His father refused his magic. Something about how he was appalled that there was such a heavy opinion on blood status. It was only slightly ironic that Hyun Ki was going to a school that separated it’s students that way. That was only because Hyun couldn’t stand to be too far away from his mother. And as shy as the boy was in his own country he could only imagine what kind of outcast he would be in a foreign one.

As he walked down isles his thin fingers picked up this and that, mostly to inspect the items and wonder their purpose. Hyun Ki had managed to find a couple of the things he needed and cradled them carefully in his other arm.

He heard his name and jumped. The last thing he expected was someone to notice him. Well that wasn’t true. There was maybe one or two people he would know. The fourth year was a prefect too. He was more caught off guard. The poor boy dropped the things in his arms. They tumbled to the floor with a thud, luckily nothing was breakable.

His cheeks went bright red and he looked at the person who had scared him. “Oh, um hi Professor Hak,” He said quietly with a quick bow. He should have known it was a teacher. Hyun was endlessly embaraced as he scrambled to gather the things that had hit the floor. Once they were secure again and Hyun Ki was standing up right he cleared his throat.

“Yes….I needed some things for classes,” His cheeks were still pink and he was having trouble keeping eye contact with the charms professor. He hoped that he wasn’t in trouble for anything. Hyun worked hard, sometimes too hard, but always got his papers in and did his best to get all of his spells and potions and charms right the first time. “Everyone else I know was busy so I came alone.” He tried to explain not sure if it was the fact that he was alone that was a problem. He never knew of a rule like that before. Other than yes one did tend to be safe in numbers. Hyun only had one person who might have come along with him Hyun Ki didn’t have the guts to ever ask, even if it was something as innocent and boring as buying school supplies.

“Are you here to get some things for next lesson Professor?” He then asked figuring there was no harm in a little friendly conversation with his teacher, he wasn’t trying o suck up. Even if he was Hyun was sure that he was messing that up by still shaking like a leaf.

Hyun knew he needed to get it together. He was more nervous because he was running the idea that he was in trouble through his head. He couldn’t afford to get into trouble or be doing bad in class. The first sign of trouble and he knew that his father would make that a reason to pull the boy out and tell him that the wizarding world was nothing but trouble.

He took some deep breaths and did his best to tell himself that he was just overreacting. Professor Hak answered his questions and Hyun pressed his lips together. Duh…. Hyun Ki was smart enough to know that his brain was just too busy freaking out at the time. Now he just felt dumb. “Right…my mistake. “ He spoke with a nod still avoiding eye contact.
The brighter students comment managed to pull a smile from the boy. “Well thank you very much professor.” He lightly nodded his head, for the first time really looking at the charms professor. Hyun still held his things close, right now they were acting as a security blanket. Though his cheeks were still warm he was doing better now.

“How have your classes been Professor?” Hyun then asked and looked to the shelf at his side quickly glancing at the objects there. He was trying to save face with continuing on the conversation, his teacher was kind enough to say hello in the first place. That was something most of his piers didn’t even do.

Hyun knew that there were some less than stellar students in the school regardless of its prestige. That is what happened when blood and money came into play. Most of the slacker students were higher on the food chain. Then there was Hyun the one that those other’s preyed on. That was how he knew how bad some of the other’s were doing. He would be the one to pick up their slack and make sure they at least were passing.

The teacher asked about how he was doing. Hyun’s brow knit in thought. He had no idea how to even answer that. Were as there was nothing terrible going on his life, pining for someone who seemed so untouchable was driving him crazy. “I am…okay.”

He shook his head “Nope I’m balancing my time well,” Hyun Ki shrugged. Homework and prefect duties. It wasn’t that hard to juggle. Only having to worry about his own work was a far lighter load than before when he was pressed under the thumb of a pure blood sixth year.

Most of the teachers did well at doing their job. He could see how there was some bias here and there. Where a professor would try and make the pure bloods work and earn their grades. Then there were those that played into how the school decided to segregate their students. Luckily Professor Hak was one of the teachers who would be fair. It didn’t matter what family a student came from or what house they were in as long as you were a good student then you got a fair grade.

Hyun could see that the man in front of him was not thrilled by their topic of conversation, he had just never really spoken to an authority figure casually. What do you even say to a teacher on the street? The boy chewed on his lip in thought. “Holiday is coming soon…do you have any plans?” Hyun Ki wasn’t sure that the question was interesting or appropriate to be asking. He wanted to try, as a way to save face from his stumbling earlier. There was also this idea that outside of school the last thing a professor wants to talk about is school.
