Hyun was on his bed just staring at the number in his hands. Why he thought this would be a good idea was beyond him. Wait. No, that wasn’t true. He hoped that he got someone specific. That by some twist of fate something in his life would go right.
Honestly he was so close to just not going. It would be so easy to just burrow under his blankets and hide for the rest of the night. That wouldn’t be fair to however got the number. That matched his. 27. It was staring back at him.
Hyun sighed. Might as well start getting ready. He knew he was too chicken to not go and stand up whatever poor soul was pared with him for the night. His confidence wasn’t exactly in a good place after a very awkward talk in a shop with the charms professor. He needed to shake it off just let everything roll off his back and start this night with a good attitude.
The boy pushed himself up and started to riffle through his cloths. He only had one suit. It was nice, the best suit his mother could afford him with whatever extra money they had after paying the school fees. He changed into the suit snapping on the cuff links that used to be his grad fathers.
Hyun stepped in front of the mirror looking himself over. That was as good as it was going to get, he supposed. A hand brushed through his brass colored hair making sure it was pushed out of his face. Hyun Ki took a couple of extra seconds to adjust the tie and make sure there were no creases or wrinkles in his jacket. His mother would have loved to see him in the suit with his grandfather’s silver and onyx cuff links glinting in the light. She would have told him he looked handsome, and that anyone would be lucky to dance with her boy tonight. Hyun would have smiled and laughed and thanked her for being the best mother in the world.
She wasn’t there to give him that. The ghost of that smile was on Hyun’s face, but making things like that up in his head would never compare to it actually happening. One more brush through his hair and he walked away from the mirror and snatched up the card with the number on it. He left he room and walked to the hall, passing other students dressed up in their best on their way to see who their night would be shared with. At least he wasn’t currently dating anyone, that would be hard to be paired with someone who wasn’t your boyfriend or girlfriend. At least there was something going for him. Now just to find the second number 27.
