Something about the school being empty for the holidays weighed down on Ella's disposition in a foul way. Sure, there were a few people still around and sure she had many invitations to spend the holidays with her friends but she honestly just wanted to be alone. Spend the last few weeks of the Nutcracker season in complete solitude. Floo to London, take her bow, floo back to the empty common room with a hello to the headmaster and call it square. It was what she had been doing almost all her life, though this year it was even without the stupid fake presents her mother pretended to send her each year. Clothes three sizes too small, obviously worn out by the twins or clothes ten sizes to big, obviously worn out by her. Whatever, she thought as she laced up her shoes. They weren't worth her time or thoughts.
Crossing her legs in front of her, she pulled the extraneous fly-aways back into her bun, pinning them down with the absolute intention of perfection. What was wrong with her recently? Ever since she had gotten back from Egypt she had felt... off. Ella knew she hadn't been intentionally avoiding her friends but between rehearsals and studying she hadn't seen them in too long. Part of her knew she should reach out but what? Send a christmas card? How typical was that.
Ella grinned as she rose en pointe, her shoes accentuating her extremely high instep. Thank heaven for her feet, she thought to herself, or she'd just be another teenage vagabond kicked out onto the street.
Beginning a slow bar, first-two-three, second-two-three, support from the inner thigh, center always in control, she sighed and just allowed herself to work. Sure, she was dancing more than she did at any other time of the year but there was always room to improve. Hey, she could become the youngest sugar plum fairy in the history of the company. Doubt that would ever happen but... it could happen.
With a mischievous smile, she stepped towards the back corner of the room, curiousity taking over. She grabbed her wand and waved it towards the ancient piano. The ever familiar music came on and she stood en prepare, hoping to prove something to herself.
