Ian Madigan stood before his mirror, as he took in what he was currently wearing. His youngest daughter; Reign, wanted to be Tinker Bell this year for Halloween and she insisted that he be a pirate like Captain Hook. After watching the movie Peter Pan with his daughter one night, he studied the character Hook. He thought Hook was little too frilly to be a real pirate and he wanted to go above and beyond on the costume. All but one of his kids were grown up, so he only had a few more years to enjoy dressing up for Halloween and going out Trick or Treating. Ian spend hours doing research on pirates and the life style, his sister sketching out an outfit and it looked spot on to him.
His sister did all the hard work. She gathered all the materials and spent a few weeks making both his and Reign’s costumes. She poured her talents into the project. There was not a missing stitch or button. Reign looked adorable in her green leaf dress and her sparkly tights. Her wild curls tucked under a blonde wig and his sister styling it to fit the character she was portraying. She even had the little fluff balls on the tops of her green flats. The finishing touch was her fairy wings that he enchanted to sparkle and leave a trail of fairy dust as she walked.
Now he stood there, wearing dingy clothes to set the character. His face smudged with dirt and eyeliner framing around his eyes. His sister found a wig and styled it with some dreads and beads. It was tight on his head but it looked good when he wrapped a bandana around his head. It topped it off with a folded hat and boots, a fake pistol and sword strapped to his hips. He was ready for the night. Reign rushing him to hurry before all the good candy was taken. He kissed his sister on the cheek and thanked her for all the hard work she did before taking Reign’s hand and making their way into the village to spend the next few hours Trick OR Treating.
Once her bag couldn’t hold onto anymore candy, he led them back to his sister’s house. His other kids were off enjoying the night and Ian wanted to enjoy it too. Reign would stay with his sister for the night and help bake while he went to a party his co-workers invited him too. He knocked on the door and as she opened it, Reign held out her bag and spoke, “Trick or treeeeat” they all laughed before his daughter darted inside and Ian waved goodbye. “Do not eat too much tonight Pequeño, I will see you in the morning” With another thank you to his sister, he turned and headed towards the Inn that held the party.
He stepped inside the building, greeted with loud music and happy faces. It was still early in the night and the party was just getting started. Everyone was wearing different costumes and enjoying themselves by mingling and partaking in event games. Soon he found himself at the sign up table for the costume contest and he quickly scribbled his information down. They informed him of the time that it will be taking place and he stepped aside to let the next person sign up. He stepped through the crowd to the open bar, propping his arm on the bar top while leaning his side against the counter, ordering himself a shot of rum. It seemed appropriate.
