Overall Personality: One thing to understand about North is that he is protective. Yet another thing to know is that he's had a difficult past not because he's a bad person, he has just been in situations that require him to act in ways that society condemned him for.
In most situations a gentle, kind human being, North is misunderstood in a lot of situations. Because of the crowds he has chosen, then the clothing he wears and the places he spends his time in, it's easy to see how people could believe him to be a less than perfect human being. However, he's anything but. In several instances, he has put his life on the line for total strangers, not only his friends and family, though he has been in that scenario as well.
Around total strangers, he might come off as a reserved, quiet person, unafraid to share opinions and get into a conversation. But around his friends, though he has few that are still alive, he's much more alive. Loud and fun, he's always rational and smart about what he does, but he doesn't let limitations stop him. His friends might explain him as a leader, who can let go and have fun when the situation needs.
He would give anything for an idea he believes in, and it's very hard to sway his opinion on something, but he will listen to reason.

Birth Place: Chicago

Overall History: Born the oldest child to a pair of eccentric, young parents, it's no wonder where he got his name, if you know the couple. Aurora, sixteen, will tell you she got the name from the direction of success, as she saw north as an upward direction, and she didn't want to name her child 'Up.' No one knows if that is the real reason for his name, or if she was simply drunk on mead when he was born, and that's the first thing that came to mind. The woman was drunk her entire pregnancy, and it was a miracle that her son came out alive, though he nearly died three or four times in the first day, being held in the hospital for weeks after wards, as he was underweight and was believed to have serious retardation. Fortunately, he matured well enough, though stinted in the least. His mind was perfectly fine, with no signs of a handicap. His parents brought him home, and from then on did a decent job of raising him, though he was left alone for far to long, and was ignored for much of his childhood.
He showed signs of magical control as a young age, being able to move things when he was angry, and causing lights to flicker and many other magical anomalies. Before he was shipped off to Salem, he spent most of his time outside, wandering around the woods that his home was comfortably situated in. It was rare that he'd be home for more than a half hour at a time. He built forts and castles out of twigs and branches in the forests, and would even stay out at night when he knew his parents wouldn't miss him.
This was usually do to heavy drinking, or simply their absence from the home at all. They liked to party, and they seemed to trust their twelve year old son enough to take care of himself, sometimes for days at time. He enjoyed the time alone, but as could be imagined, he got a bit of a complex, being left along at all times. Friends that he made found it hard to get rid of him, and saying goodbye became one of the hardest things he ever had to do, even if it was just until the next day. He wouldn't overcome this until his freshmen year at Salem.
During his young years, he became the big brother to two younger sisters, who he promised he would take care of. He made his mother quit drinking and smoking, at least until they were born, and he gave up his hours in the woods to take care of his sisters. Lovely and Penny were given the best he could manage for them, and this gave him his gentle, caring side. It also fostered his feelings of protection. He would have done anything for his sisters...
He was, of course, given the opportunity to enter the school as a student, and he took the opportunity. He did have a bit of a struggle with this. Leaving his sisters behind, he almost gave up the chance because he didn't trust his parents. But they promised that they would take care of them, and told him that he was the girl's chance of having a bright future. He needed to be their example. And so, he went.
The first year was hard, because of his level of maturity and the lack there of by everyone else. Having to raise himself, and two little girls had a way of making him grow up much more quickly then anyone else in his year.
The second year was much easier, and he found a few friends that seemed to have grown up a bit over the summer, and he also befriended the older students. However, at the end of his second year, a month before school was over, Penny was very sick, and he chose to go home to take care of her. He was smart to do so, because his sister would have died in his Mother's care. He was allowed to graduate from his second year, with luck and a bit of homework over the summer. However, he didn't dare leave his sister's behind. His solution to the problem was one of the students who had graduated, whom he had been best friends with. His friend found a home in a nearby village, adopted the two sisters and took care of them. With special permission, North was able to leave school at nights to go to his friend's home and take care of the two at night. This went on until he graduated from Salem.
He found a job, found a home, and was then in charge of raising the two little girls all on his own. It was a challenge, and he found it difficult to leave them with any baby sitter, but he eventually helped the two get into Salem. At the ripe age of twenty-one, he finally had time for himself. After being used to working away his day, and taking care of them at night, he had no idea what to do with himself.
Soon enough, he found himself in a very bad place. A single month after his sisters had headed off to Salem, Penny as a freshmen, he found himself in the party crowd. Drinking himself sick every night, trying all new sorts of drugs and hallucinogens, he was addicted before he could say otherwise. His poison of choice was vodka and narcotics, combined to have horrible but amazing effects. Because of this, and the length of his addiction, his sisters had to be send to live with Aurora and Bently the following summer. This made North open his eyes to what he had been doing.
How could he have gotten to lost in that dark, dark world that he had forced his sisters to return to his parents? Worse yet... had he become his parents? He needed to change.
Over the next six months, he made himself change. He completely dropped the alcohol and the drugs, living off of the letters his sisters sent him, and his new job. His took as much time as he could at work, and though his body craved the high, he refused and worked in and out. If he wasn't at work, he was running through the mountains near his small home, or writing his sisters. He sent them gifts with the money he raised, and was able to bring them home on vacation over Christmas break, where they went on a trip to Scotland, somewhere Penny had wanted to go since she was young. He had changed, completely.
His effort was well paid.
Working in the shop, he met a lot of people, because the shop was a destination for many who sought antiques. One fine morning, he met a beautiful woman, just a year younger than him, and all alone in the world. Her name was August, a name almost as strange as his. It wasn't long before they were on a date, then another and another. It was nearly love at first sight, and he did anything he could to be with her. Her learned of her past, not far from his, though she had avoided addictions to everything but antiques. She was the light of her world.
The next summer, when Penny and Lovely were home, North and August were married. It was a small gathering, but it was exactly what August had wanted for her dream wedding, and North had done everything to make it so. Penny and Lovely discovered that August was an amazing sister in law, and they spent much of the rest of the summer together. North took them all over the world, using connections from his past to find a bit cheaper prices and good tours. It was the best summer of life, and he fell even more in love with August.
He was that happy for only a short time, before everything was ripped out of his life. An ex-lover of August's knocked on the door, she opened the door and was dead a few minutes later. Coming home from work, North walked in on his dead wife, and a man standing over her body. The confrontation that followed was short, and North killed the man before much was said. Angry and grieving, the ministry workers that arrived blamed North for the murders. Because of his questionable past that the worker's knew of, he was not given the opportunity to defend his case. He was in jail soon after.
He left everything to his sisters.
He was only in jail for a short time, at which point he was called out and given a rare opportunity. North was told that he could continue to serve another forty years, or spy on a little known group of 'rising rebellions', as he was introduced to the idea. Being given very little information about the group, he chose to spy.
That was nearly seven months ago, and since then, he does not regret his decision. He is still about to write his sisters and receive their mail, but he also has had the opportunity to disappear from the eye of the ministry, as the job calls for. Basically free, he enjoys his ability to do what he wants, when he wants to.
Now, a part of the Phantoms, he hasn't decided what his intentions are. The group is a friendly place for him, but he worries for his sisters... the future will hold his fate. For now, he is simply going with the motions.
