Ah, Paris. There was no other city Maddie loved more than New York City but Paris came in a very close second. It was a magical place, the city of lights filled with beautiful people in fabulous clothes drinking wine at every cafe on every street corner. It was the home of fashion week, the home of all things wonderful and couture: the home of Dior, Chanel, Galliano. Home away from home for Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Picasso and Matisse. It was the center of all arts and culture and it was beautiful.
And here she was, doing something Maddie never thought possible in her lifetime: bringing a boyfriend back to her place. Sure, this apartment had it's fair share of one night stands (and a few drunken threesomes, if she was going to be honest) and she was a bit nervous about it. What if he found her completely unbearable to live with, when he realized she was crazy and difficult. That she still slept with a light on, that she would be manic from not eat for days on end and then binge on macaroons. A great experiment, this summer would be.
They slowly made their way to the Hearst's first Arrondissement flat in the royal heart of the city, a stone's throw away from Tuleries Garden and the Musee des artes decoratifs, one of the most desirable pieces of real estate in Europe. Maddie's window overlooked Notre Dame and was woken up every morning by the great clanging of the bells, a romantic impossibility for anywhere but Paris.
She grinned as they entered her building, the surprised doorman exclaiming with excitement. Her family had been visiting since she was a baby and Louis had seen her grow up.
"Ah, Louis! Comment allez-vous? Je vous présente Damian Vittorio, mon copain." How strange, to be introducing anyone to Louis as "her boyfriend." The doorman winked at her, handing over the spare key and the couple ascended the elevator to the Hearst suite.
"Home sweet home." She flicked on the lights and she grinned as it bounced off of the gold trim on the moldings, slightly nervous to what his reaction would be.
