Overall Personality: Aladdin is, as his appearance may suggest, a bit of an idiot. Happy by nature and not one to turn down a conversation, he tends to try his hardest to make other people happy and make as many friends as possible. Even if it is against his traditional nature to befriend the gadje, his excitement over his magical abilities causes him to make questionable decisions. A bit reckless with his actions and prone to exploring relatively dangerous places he thrives on adrenaline rushes, which causes him to giggle rather loudly. He's quite the flirt, not ashamed to play for both teams and thrives on his newly formed sexual freedom away from the very traditional gazes of the caravan he's so accustomed to. Aladdin is very tolerant of people, especially when the gadje find out he's romani, however he can't stand the word gypsy and will politely correct people when they call him such, though he understands that not everyone knows the proper term.

Despite his happy-go-lucky attitude, if someone makes an effort to annoy him and generally get on his bad side, he does know how to hold a grudge until he gets a sincere apology and request for friendship. Still a traditional romani at heart, he's very superstitious and actively avoids things that bring bad luck or curses. He knows his own brand of gypsy magic that he does naturally and without thinking, mostly good luck charms and things to ward off evil. Due to the romani knowing several gypsy charms for hiding themselves, he's rather gifted with Transfiguration and thrives in his class, though he may not always follow instructions correctly. He is a bit dramatic, taking things to an extreme and sometimes blowing things out of proportion in his excitement. Equally, he can be a clingy friend if he takes a real shine to you, which can become annoying after a while since he always wants to go on some sort of crazy adventure.

Overall History: Born in rural Arabia in the midst of a caravan move to a large Romani clan, life for Shyamji was rather simple. As per tradition, he was given a real name - Shyamji - and an "other" name - Aladdin. The purpose of this "other" name was to be known only to his close family, so that when illness came searching for Aladdin, no such child named Aladdin actually existed. This Romani clan was rather traditional, following a lot of systems and quirks long lost by modern clans. They traveled from city to city, never settling for long and packing up immediately if the residential population was violently objective to their presence. They made money with herbal cures, instruments of wonderful quality and blankets knit from soft wool. Aladdin grew up amongst dancing and singing, and began earning his own wages at an early age by dancing to the beat of his mother's tambourine on street corners. He was something of a miracle for the clan with his bright eyes and charming smile, which always earned a few more coins in their hands.

This caused him to develop something of an ego at an early age, and with the added bonus of oozing charm he managed to get sweets and candies from young women around the various towns they visited often. Of course, the Romani had their own brand of magic but when an owl found it's way into the camp, curious eyes gazed fixedly at Aladdin. There were murmurs of "gadje magic" and wondering if somehow he had become tainted, but his father managed to calm everyone with joyous exclamations of protection. However, unwilling to go too far into the other magic world, Aladdin was left to procure his own belongings from the magical world, though even then he was successful. His wand is crafted from Hazel, which tends to leak a silvery liquid when water is near, allowing the caravan to travel for longer periods of time without worries of stopping in towns that reacted violently to them.

Despite loving his camp, he was happy to get away during his young adult years to mingle with other children his own age. Being able to properly explore himself without the wandering eyes of the others in the caravan left him a bit reckless and mischievous in his endeavors. He got in his share of trouble, but clicked well with the school.
