Overall Personality: Alessio tries to be a traditional gentleman. He's kind and polite, though pleasantly laid back. All too understanding of how hard students work, especially with the huge work load for Astronomy students he provides study groups and tutoring sessions while class is not in session, even taking the time to skip meals or have his meals in his office to help those who need it. The students like him, as having a fantastic memory he rarely forgets thing and can often remember specific problems a student is having with their work. The only thing that seems to be able to properly distract him from his job is his son, in which he is a dedicated and good father. Doting on his son is something he loves to do in his spare him, and he often attempts to incorporate Matteo in his lessons by having him do small things to help him, like passing out papers.

He loves animals and has been known in the past to help injured creatures around the castle, taking them in and giving them a temporary home before letting them back into the wild. He owns a small fluffy puppy (quite popular amongst the students) and has several other creatures back in his home in Italy. He's quite versed in the art of emergency animal care, having saved several kittens and puppies from starving, freezing, and drowning. Despite his knowledge, he is rather naive especially when it comes to slang terms. A lot can get by him and he won't question it, not thinking much about it.

Overall History: Born and raised in Venice, Italy to a small semi-poor family of mask makers he was always surrounded by colors. His father would tirelessly make mask after mask, preparing for the great Venice Carnivale. Though he was expected to take on the family business, and was entirely intending to do so, an event stopped him in his tracks. During the Carnivale one year he became overly excited, and caused all of the masks in the small shop light up and float in the air. The small display of magic frightened his mother, who thought he was ill. He learned to control himself soon after, having been to several doctors and having his mother trap him in the house.

Of course when his Hogwarts letter arrived, the family was surprised. Being a lower class family with only a couple days of decent profit, they couldn't afford schooling for their son and therefore were uneasy and confused by the letter. However, upon realizing the school was to teach their son magic, and was of no charge to them, with heavy hearts they allowed their son to go. Alessio was an unsure student, not taking anything to heart too much but doing his best anyway. He didn't really feel as though he fit in, seeing as he had slipped through the cracks and was a foreign student in the school.

It wasn't until his fifth year in the school that the Head of his House sat him down and had a long talk with him, that he really decided to join the magic world. He focused harder on his classes, selected a few classes he wanted to specialize in, and succeeded. After graduating with a plan to be involved in Astronomy, he traveled to a remote location in Africa referred to as the Mountains of the Moon, where there was a specialty school for Astronomy. After several years he graduated, though seemed a bit changed from the startling experience, and returned to Italy. He moved from the North, down to the South in the Calabrian region and bought a large plot of land. He took three years to himself to relax and get his life together, and kept in correspondence with Hogwarts knowing that the Astronomy teacher was retiring.

Right before he was due to begin his teaching career however, he found himself wandering in a small Italian town, drawn to an alley by the sound of muffled crying. What he found broke his heart, and delayed his career. A small infant had been placed in a trash can. He decided to take in the baby, too traumatized to leave the baby or give him up. He dedicated the first year of Matteo's life to raising him in a healthy environment, knowing that a temporary teacher was taking his place until Matteo was old enough to travel. Once Matteo hit a good age, he began his career in Hogwarts. The first year was rocky, but once he got the hang of it teaching became easier, and he found Astronomy becoming a more popular subject. On Matteo's third birthday, celebrating it with a trip to the beach in Piza, Alessio spotted a small white blob in the water that wasn't moving. Taking a closer look, he found a small puppy who'd been tossed in the ocean with the clear intentions of drowning the puppy. He took the dog in, nursed it back to health, and Matteo quickly became attached to the dog who was named Echo due to how vocal she was when others were talking, as though Echoing their conversations.
