Horrible with negative forms of magic, she and her wand both detesting them
The only real control she has over her metamorph powers are with her eyes and hair, she’s still quite unskilled otherwise and so it can easily get away from her
Overall Personality: Laelia is a bit of a contradiction. On the one hand she is kind and gentle. She greatly enjoys helping others and is always willing to sacrifice to ensure that they are provided for. With a large group of people, a class for example, she is able to let a bit of this out, enabling her to assist them all as their attentions are largely focused elsewhere. Even despite her discomfort however she cannot prevent herself from aiding someone in need, particularly a younger person, and so wil0l drop everything to rush to their aide.
On the other hand, however, the circumstances of her life have forced her into her shell. The things that have happened to her, rather than leaving her bitter at the world as most, have near irrevocably convinced her of her own utter lack of self-worth. She does not truly think herself of use for anything other than, well, use. This fuels her self-sacrificing nature, and means that it is quite easy to get her to give up just about anything. Likewise her thin layer of cheer can quite easily be stripped away by the slightest of efforts, Even small errors causing her to curse herself.
Surprisingly, she can be a bit of a smartaleck at times, but this is only with those with whom she is truly comfortable, and with whom she has managed to convince herself that they do not mind her faults; however tenuous that belief might be. So far there are only two people that she has this level of closeness too, one of these being the man who saved her life, Owen Ital. Even so he can make her despair like no other; it would have to be a gay man that she fell in love with, wouldn’t it?

Overall History:
Laelia is a muggleborn, having been born to parents in a small French village. At first everything was perfectly fine. Laelia would play in the countryside around her village, smiling and laughing, swimming in the river with her father while her mother laughed from the bank. It was a fairly typical start, all in all.
That changed as she began to grow older and exhibit signs of the magic inherent in her blood. At first it was quite small, little oddities that her parents easily dismissed as their eyes playing tricks or that they’d imagined something. However when her mother entered her room one day to find her teddy bear sipping at a cup of imaginary tea, there was no logical explanation that she could possibly fathom; well, almost. Being deeply religious people her parents immediately called for the village priest who, after a cursory examination, declared what they had feared; the child was a witch and quite obviously demon possessed. Unfortunately, in their opinion, burning witches alive was now frowned on, and so they took her the girl on a road trip to a much larger city where she was abandoned at a church orphanage; the village was told she had drowned in the river, so that no one could ever discover their shame.
The little girl was entirely unaware of what had happened, and she remained resolute that her parents would come back for her, they were just taking a long time. Every day she would spend her time sitting at the window or by the fence, watching and waiting for her parents to come back and retrieve her. Because of this she never made the effort to befriend any of the children, something that led to them all resenting her because they thought she believed herself better than them. Likewise the administration of the orphanage did not like her either, believing her a foolish child and thinking that there must be something truly wrong with her for her own parents to so readily be rid of her.
As the years passed her vigil continued, but her confidence that her parent’s were coming back for her gradually diminished bit by bit. Eventually she realized that she had been abandoned, but this did nothing to halt her assertions. With her hopes dashed she had looked about, and had realized the feelings of the other’s about her. She could feel that htye all hated her, and this made her think; was that why her parents had abandoned her? They hated her? It must be, and it must have been something she had done, though she did not know what. Like the adults watching over her and the others she came to believe that there was something truly wrong with her, though what she did not know. She continued to watch and wait, though no longer from hope, but simply because she had nothing left.
Years later a prim, stern looking lady arrived at the orphanage. Laelia was the first to see her, and she was immediately curious, because no one so proper looking had ever been seen there before, at least by her. Though she was interested in what such a glamorous looking lady might want there, she nonetheless did not move from her spot, and so watched as the lady left a short time later. A few days later the woman returned, sparking his interest again, and startling her immensely when it was she whom was approached and not the others. The lady spoke to her, telling her that she had been selected to attend a seminary school for part of the year. This surprised Laelia immensely, as she could not fathom why someone as low as her would be selected for something like this.
When the lady had led her away from the school, she revealed the truth; that Laelia was a witch and would be attending a place known as Beauxbatons. As she had no parents the lady, who identified herself as Mireille Bouchard, would be attending to her school related needs and assisting her in preparations each year. It was all so fascinating to her, and she was amazed that such a thing was even possible. The robes purchased for her were the first new clothes she had received since arriving at the orphanage, and the moment she held her wand in her hand she felt that it had been crafted just for her.
Arriving at Beauxbatons, she was fascinated by every single little thing, it was all just so amazing. Unfortunately, it was this awe, combined with her negative opinion of herself, which led to her remaining solitary. The other students for the most part did not even notice she was there, and on her part she made no effort to change the fact. All of the classes fascinated her, but it was Charms that she loved the best. Partly this was because she soon discovered that she had a natural affinity of the craft, as did her wand which seemed to practically hum in anticipation of the class. Most of all, however, it was because Ms. Bouchard was the one to teach the class. Laelia’s skill at the class enabled her to grow close to the stern lady, and before even her first year was finished she had come to think of the woman as a new mother.
During the periods when students she returned to the orphanage and her place at the window, though now it was with renewed purpose. She had begun to desperately hope that one day, when school was nowhere in sight, Ms. Bouchard would step through the gates and approach her, announcing that she would be taking her home to be her family. Years passed, and this did not occur, but nonetheless her hopes did not diminish. Every year brought her closer and closer with her favored teacher, and it only bolstered her hopes all the more. It was through these personal instances that she first became aware that she was more than just a witch. As it turned out she was born with a special talent, something called a metamorphmagus. Laelia had known that her appearance tended to change at times, her hair or eyes, but she after learning about magic she had simply thought this something that happened to all witches and wizards. She had absolutely no idea that it was a rare and special thing, and certainly not that it was something she could control. Ms. Bouchard corrected her on this, and even began to help her learn to control it.
These were dashed, however, when she was in fact adopted, but not by whom she had hoped. A couple who were the parents of a student she remembered from school arrived and took her far, far away. They left France entirely, Laelia coming to live with them in the Netherlands, and realizing that with them taking care of her she Ms. Bouchard would no longer be coming to retrieve her for schooling. The melancholy that precipitated this only deepened when she found out that it was not out of love she had been adopted. Her classmate had revealed to her family that she was a metamorphmagus, and they had seen the opportunity to use her for their own ends. She soon discovered that the family she had been adopted into was one of dark witches and wizards, ones who traveled the darkest of circles.
What it was specifically that they wanted from her she never learned, only that it was not good and that they did not care for her one bit. She was get locked in a tiny shed in a wooded area behind the house, the door only opening for her meal once a day. Laelia was, however, allowed to continue attending school so as to avoid rousing any suspicion, however she was forbidden from speaking to Ms. Bouchard outside of class; an ultimatum that she swiftly learned not to dare violating.
This became her life, and without her beloved teacher’s companionship she swiftly devolved back into her solitary self-loathing, her new ‘family’ aiding in convincing her that her misfortunes were entirely her fault. Though she knew they desired her for some reason she never learned what, for she was never spoken to and nothing ever changed.
Well, not for a while at least.
Just before her final year she was startled by a huge noise outside her tiny shed. She had no idea what this noise could be, but she knew that it rarely ceased. Often it was accompanied by the sounds of shouting and spells being cast, though she could never quite make out those either. Thus she was quite surprised when one of the noises was suddenly accompanied by the top half of her shed bursting into flames, smoke billowing out and choking her. The combination of heat and polluted air swiftly overcame her and she collapsed to the floor, her mind only coherent enough to form the thoughts that it was yet another blow of karma, and that perhaps finally her sadness was over. As her mind blackened and succumbed, it could not even process the door of the shed being blasted to splinters, or the strange man yelling as he burst inside.
As it turned out the man that saved her was a handsome young Wizard named Owen Ital. He was a dragon keeper who worked n Romania, but he and his companions had come because they’d had reports of a dragon illegally being kept. Apparently that was the source of the noises she had heard, and her ‘family’ had been arrested for the fact, among a number of other things. It was only by luck that they had discovered her in time to save her, and after hearing of the deplorable conditions she had suffered and the fact that she now had no home, Owen offered to let her stay with him. It goes without saying that she did not even consider turning down the offer from the hansome man who had saved her life.
They traveled back to Romania, Laelia not daring to return to school, where they stayed for a time. Unfortunately, however, Owen decided that having a young girl (he was one to talk) around giant firebreathing carnivores wasn’t exactly the best or safest idea, and so he sent her to London to stay at his home there. He also told her that she should go to Hogwarts and speak with the headmaster to see about work, seeing as he had learned she was quite skilled with Charms and didn’t want her to waste away all alone in an empty apartment. Though she was quite intimidated at the thought of such a thing, the man unknowingly had her wrapped around his little finger and so she did as instructed. To her immense surprise, even though she had never officially finished her schooling, she was permitted the vacant post of Charms professor.
Laelia was quite unsure of her ability to do such a thing, or handle such a large number of people, but she nonetheless decided to give it a go. She was again surprised to find that it really wasn’t that bad, her natural inclination towards helping others and the large class sizes allowing her to stifle her shyness and self-loathing. Yet another surprise came when a rather disgruntled owl arrived at school with a grumpy looking little twintailed pup clasped in its talons. The note tied under the puppies belly revealed that Owen was worried she might be lonely, and so had gotten her a Crup as a present, and secretly as a guardian. Laelia named the little cutie Henriette, and they swiftly became the best of friends, the swiftly growing canine readily assuming it’s role as her protector.
Now Owen is returning to England, to teach at Hogwarts no less, and Laelia is faced with a growing conundrum. How does she live with, or indeed meet the eye of, the man she loves but whome could never love her in return?
