He's very smart because of his love of reading, and always keeps connections to outside of school to know what is happening in the world.

Overall History: JiMin was born in South Korea to a Pureblood, although not cocky, family. He attended Hogwarts before deciding to return to Korea and attend Seoul University. While in college, he decided to study abroad and ended up at Tokyo University. On his first day, he met Hana Koki, and they hit it off immediately, to the point JiMin decided to transfer to the Japanese University. On graduation day, they made couples history as he proposed to her at the graduation ceremony, and she said yes. It was soon after they moved in together he told her his secret -- that he was actually a wizard. Albeit shocked, she took it quite well, wanting to know more about the Wizarding World. They decided to take their honeymoon in England, and he showed her his "other" home. When they returned to Japan, she told him she was pregnant.

Kanghwa was born as Wahei Jeong, though Hana agreed they'd give him a Korean name with the same meaning -- "Peace." KangHwa was raised as a normal, Japanese muggle, although he knew about his Wizarding (and Korean) side. However, when he turned 11, something awful happened: He was kidnapped. He was taken in by a psychotic couple, and he just heard them talking about what curses to put on him. He was tortured, beaten, and raped. This crazed wizarding couple often kept the Cruciatus curse on him for hours at an end. A year passed before KangHwa's family finally understood what they wanted from them. Not money, but their deaths. They were death eaters trying to "purify" the Wizarding World, and had been tracking the couple pretty much since their honeymoon in England. Eventually, KangHwa's parents raised such a fuss, the Ministry of Magic in Asia came to their aid, and KangHwa was finally free.
Only twelve, KangHwa couldn't yet be sent to the new school for Wizards. The family moved to Korea, and began dealing with a whole new set of problems. KangHwa was hurt, physically and mentally, and he was showing signs of severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. on top of it all, he began using what magic he knew to "play" with small animals, rodents and insects, until they'd die. He had a severe violent streak that wasn't at all present before.
His parents did everything they could to help their boy, standing close beside him and eventually helping him through his PTSD. They sent him away to Mabeob soon after his fourteenth birthday still hesitant, but assured he would be okay. Okay turned out to be an understatement. He excelled in school, much to the professor's hatred. He also seemed to have another mission, after being sorted as he was. He grew up hearing stories of Hogwarts, where he'd have a choice, in a sense, of what house he'd get into. This was a disappointment compared to that.
KangHwa is often getting into fights because he doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut about the housing separations. After facing so much grief for being a half-blood, he doesn't really like taking shit from, well, anyone, really.
