The past months have been strange. The strength that Angel had was nothing less than impressive. She had been stronger than he in his first years. Really Nik was still an infant when it came to his vampirism. He knew nothing proper about staying safe and unstaked. If it wasn’t for Angel he would mindlessly drink mortals dry.
It had been hard enough learning about magic, and all the other ”creatures” that roamed around the earth. Creatures, what a disgusting ungrateful word to call anything that wasn’t human or wizard. Now he had to look after her. Make sure she was drinking. Just starving because it was morally wrong. It was nature. Predators killed to survive, it was the way of nature. When vampires starved they went mad.
Nik missed hearing the thud of her heart and even the rush of the blood through her veins. Angel smelled different now, she wasn’t warm and her cheeks weren’t flushed anymore. Still she was beautiful, she was his doll as always. Now she wasn’t fragile still he held her so carefully.
He didn’t know if he would carry around guilt for the rest of this eternity. No matter how much she thrived he had a hard time looking at her knowing the hunger that raged through him. They were going through this struggle together, not just as sier and protege. Every night he woke and his fangs ached and his veins screamed for blood. The hearts of the living thundering in his ears.
The sun had just dipped below the horizon and Nik opened his eyes. Angel was laying there next to him, not breathing. That was one of those things that she would have to learn too, fake breathing. It was subtle but when someone didn’t breath people noticed. She seemed to still be sleeping...or as close to sleeping as a vampire could. Flashes of that night where she almost died ran through his head. Seeing her like this almost justified what he did. To see her actually dead, truly lifeless would have broken him.
Soon the hunger would wake her just like it had him and they would have to leave the space they had made for themselves above the bar. So far it was all they could afford after buying the space for their business. Not really there's, more Angels. She had dreams, he was just a drifter. It was good to be grounded by something. Once she woke up they would have to feed before there was a bar full of living, breathing, bleeding people.
[notes: i can't sleep and figured it would be good to start these two again]
