Sio felt her ears burning from all of the attention she was getting from Jackie. She always thought that he was some unattainable perfect specimen of man. He was the one who Maizie wanted and by all accounts the one who she should have in the end. Maizie was the Barbie doll perfect looking sister of them. She knew she was rather plain by comparison. Nona always made sure to mention it, she would give Sio gifts every Christmas of skin correcting makeup or encourage Maizie to help her with it. It was the kind of passive aggressive bullshit that Nona was able to perfect and Maizie was able to learn from the grand master. To be fair, Jackie could very well not even be into the fairer sex, he could have someone who he loved at Aridorn, he could think that both of them were stupid for even considering him as someone who would be interested in either of them. She could just stir the noodles and try not to think about what it would feel like to actually have someone love her for her. To have someone who looked at Maizie and just wanted to be with her instead.
She carefully fished a noodle out of the pot and tasted it, enjoying how it was perfectly cooked. Carefully she drained the water from the pot, added the rest of the ingredients and stirred it around. When she looked over to tell Jackie that the food was finished, she saw him staring at her. The look on his face was something that she knew all too well. It was the look that people got on their face when Maizie walked into a room. It was the look that her dad got on his face when her mom came home from the studio. It was something that she she never thought someone would look at her with. She couldn't stop the smile on her face or the blush on her cheeks when she tucked some of her new cherry red hair behind her ear.
"Pacific Rim, it's one of my favorites." She smiled, happy that he had the old movie. She had watched it with Pip and their dad a million times before and she really couldn't get enough of it.
"I mean Cthulhu against Rock'em' Sock'em Robots. What could be better?" She asked, pouring the their meal into two clean bowls and walked back into the living room area with them. She handed him his bowl and hoped that it worked out alright. She wanted to spend more time with him, to have this connection with someone who meant the world to her.
"Enjoy it."
