However, at Hogwarts where there are more books than she has access to in her family home in the UK, she is often found by her housemates and/or friends in either the library or an unused classroom. Due to constantly travelling between India and the UK, she loves travel though preferably in luxury. As a result, while she has many acquaintances in India and some in the UK, she does consider many to be friends outside of Hogwarts so she became an avid reader or both magical and muggle literature which led to her desire to experiment with magic to recreate what she'd read about, especially from muggle books. Antoinette tends to ignore the classifications of Light and Dark magic, preferring to wield both and will not hesitate to do so on Hogwarts grounds if provoked. She has friends in Ravenclaw who know of her inclination towards both branches of magic and accept it, though they may not like it while Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs are more suspicious. Due to her inclination to use Dark magic, Slytherins are more accepting of her. Her morals reflect her magical inclination. While she does have a self-preservation streak, it does not rear its head when she is caught up in research or experimentation. Often, someone has to pull her out of her own world. This has been known to result in what her friends have semi-jokingly called her "Only Child Syndrome" because she will complain and throw around her family name in order to get what she wants, namely return to her projects. Thankfully, this is a habit that she has curbed and very rarely comes out, though she will use her name to intimidate those who stand in her way if she feels the desire to do so. [break][break] HISTORY[break][break] Family:[break] • Armenius Shafiq, 46, Pureblood, Father[break] • Aureliana Shafiq (nee Euryale), 42, Pureblood, Mother[break] Birth Place: New Dehli, India[break] Overall History: Antoinette Nadira Shafiq was born to Armenius and Aureliana Shafiq while visiting Armenius's family in the magical sector of New Dehli, India and lived there until she was a little over a year before going back to the UK when they received news that Aureliana's father fell ill and died not too long afterwards. Antoinette's maternal grandmother lived until she was three before she passed away in her sleep. Though the young toddler didn't know it, Madame Euryale had named her heir(ess) of the estate upon Aureliana's request. Not long after the passing of Madame Euryale, the Shafiq family bought an estate with large tracts of land outside of Magical New Dehli in the interest of breeding racing horses for both the magical and muggle worlds like his father. Instead of selling their manor home along the Welsh banks of the River Dee, the family began to travel between the two homes depending on the season as well as the business. Aureliana was often seen among the muggle and magical elite during the holidays when the majority of gala events and balls were hosted, often bringing Antoinette along once she was able to control her accidental magic around the muggle population. Because of the constant travelling between the two countries, and occasionally others when her family's horses were racing, Antoinette was homeschooled and did not always have the opportunity to meet an befriend other magical children her age aside from her older cousins in her father's side, who she wasn't particularly fond of. She did meet other magical kids in the Americas, Arabia, India and the UK, though she didn't really consider them to be her friends because she didn't see them very much, though they did write letters quite often. Instead, she became an avid reader of books, devouring her parents' libraries as well as her grandparents. When she turned eleven, Antoinette received letters from Hogwarts, Salem, Durmstrang, and from her grandfather's alma mater in India as well as a private school in Arabia. Armenius wanted his daught to follow in his footsteps and stay within in India but ultimately Antoinette decided to attend Hogwarts as she knew more people, at least by name, who would be a in attendance there than at any other school. Once she began her education, much of her hols were spent in India with her grandparents who had indulged her exploration into various branches of magic by providing her with books on various disciplines. It was during the winter holidays that Antoinette discovered that she could speak parseltongue. Her grandmother Aaliyah had taken her to a menagerie shop in order to select a familiar since the young first year hadn't liked the selection of animals in Diagon Alley. She'd come across the snakes while wandering through the shop when she heard voices. When she realized it was the snakes speaking, she ran back to her grandmother before taking her to the snakes and showing what she could do. Smiling, her grandmother purchased a red Sunbeam snake that had been imported from Thailand at the girl's request. However, upon returning home, her parents immediately impressed upon Antoinette that wizards in the UK did not look kindly upon those who could speak Parseltongue. Thus, she put Manasa, the snake, in a cage that was carved with runes so that only Antoinette and those she told would be aware of the snake's existence at Hogwarts. By third year, several of her friends in Slytherin and Ravenclaw were aware of the snake's existence. Throughout her Hogwarts years, Antoinette became known for pushing herself to the limit, and then some, when working on a project. Often, her friends and/or housemates would have to remind her about meals and sleep, even homework on occasion. However, she was better known for her inclination towards Light and Dark magic. She'd often observed her mother performing more Light magic while her father practiced Dark magic, though he was not a Dark Wizard as he did not believe the ideologies of the dark lords who rose and fell. When asked, he told Antoinette that Dark magic was easier to cast because his core was more in tune with it than Light magic and her mother was the opposite. So Antoinette began exploring both magics and found that neither was more difficult than the other. Instead, she had an affinity for both, like Grandmother Aaliyah. [break][break] THE PLAYER[break][break] Age:22[break] Time Zone: Eastern[break] Anything Else?ADMIN EDIT[break][break] Roleplay Sample:[break] Antoinette pulled the hangings shut around her bed and charmed them shut before casting a Tempus Spell. 11:52. The seventh year puled her hair back into a low ponytail before turning to the snake enclosure at the end of her bed and pulling her familiar out. The red Sunbeam, named Manasa, slithered upAntoinette's arm and across her shoulders to the girl's other hand until all 1.3 meters of the snake were draped over her. Flicking her tongue out, Manasa tasted the air before making her way to the bed and curling in front of her human.[break] Mistress, you taste of mice. Did you eat them and not save any for me?[break] Antoinette chuckled and cast a silencing charm on her curtains before pulling a mouse out of her pockets. The red snake raised her head up and flicked her tongue at it. As the snake opened her mouth, Antoinette removed the stasis charm from the dead mouse and fed it to Manasa. While her familiar ate, Antoinette pulled out her blended core wand and set it an open palm as she settled into her meditation pose. Not too long after she had gotten her wand, her Grandmother Aaliyah had sat her down and taught her meditation. [break] "You and me, little Netta, have odd magical cores. You see, we can use both Light and Dark magic easily, unlike your mother who uses Light magic or your father and grandfather who use Dark magic. We have to balance our cores, little Netta, so that we stay balanced. Otherwise, our magic will be chaotic because Light and Dark do not always blend. They are like oil and water. Understand? Good. Now, sit like me and let your wand sit in your hand like so..." [break] Manasa felt the calming of her Mistress's magic as she finished her mouse before moving to drape across her Mistress's shoulders in order to absorb the stray magic bleeding off her Mistress. While she wasn't a powerfully magical snake, Manasa was very in-tune with her Mistress's magical aura and knew when to absorb the stray magic so that her core would balance itself. [break] |
