She lets people see only what she wants. And that is cigarettes and drugs and alcohol. Being carted off to her aunt’s house in the middle of her education wasn’t something she planned and was not something that she took lightly. So if it is this hellion of a child that her parents think she is then that is what they will get. Really what is the point of people thinking more trouble than you are worth if you aren’t anyway?[break][break]

She speaks in circles often. Most just chalk it up to her being faded most of the time. It could be or it could be her trying to just not feel like she is only her image. But that is all she is anymore. And it makes her feel hollow but the booze sort of helps. Maybe she is just this shallow thing, a kiddy pool full of vodka? Penny isn’t even sure herself anymore. But she does keep some things from the days when she was at Salem, and life was simple as a Hawthorne in the American school, before she was sent to live with her aunt and transferred to Beauxbatons. She didn’t used to be so bitter. As her former hippy house would show. She used to be fairly happy. A good student all that. Mostly that is just what she makes sure to keep up. Getting assignments in on time. Penny would say it’s because her Aunt will kick her out if she doesn’t. While that isn’t a lie but she doesn’t want to flush everything down the tubes.[break][break]

Penny does feel alone, regardless of the friends she had. Because most of those friends are just people who feed her shots and are only interested in getting high together. France is just this tomb to her. She hasn’t let anyone get to know the person who is slowly starting to drown in it all.[break][break]

What Penny is when you get down to her bones is quite. She likes history, and sunflowers. Footy pajamas are her favorite, and popcorn and caramel. She only acted out for attention and it got her shipped off. So maybe being this thing is better. It get’s her friends, and attention. And the later was what she wanted right? Drinking makes you cool. Being the girl who knew the reason behind the troll wars got her laughed at. Her mom was only seventeen. Her dad just a year older. Her mom had plans, she wanted to be part of the ministry, instead she found herself pregnant the last semester of her seventh year at Salem. Despite it all they stayed together, feigning the whole childhood sweetheart thing. The truth was they weren’t happy together, but they had this little girl who’s hair changed like a mood ring. It was a big reason why they almost never left the magical communities. Only taking short trips to visit her paternal grandparents who were just this quite muggle couple who lived in a small town in Kansas. On the rare occasion they did go out when Penny was little and couldn’t help the bubble gum pink because she loved seeing Nanna and Pop-pop, her mother hated having to defend her child’s hair. People whispering that she was a bad mother. [break][break]

Her father liked to yell, say that she was the reason he didn’t get to see his family as much. So for a long time Penny was ashamed of her hair, or the fact that her face would change when she was scared. Penny just learned to control it. She was a quiet girl that tip toed around her home because all her parents did was loath their lives, and drink because of it. In fact it was because of that drinking that the second child would be born premature and suffering brain damage. Form that day her mother was just doting on her second child, stone cold sober but only had eyes for the ‘child she had failed’. And Penny’s father checked out. It felt like Penny had been forgotten, like they couldn’t get her away to Salem fast enough. The breaks where she had to go back home, that was when Penny acted out. talked back, broke things, got in fights with neighbor kids and made her hair bright colors. [break][break]

Rather than talking, or even trying they decided it would be best to contact her Aunt Nancy who had been living in France for the last eight years. Clearly this school Penny had been going to was the issue so she would go to Beauxbatons were it would be better. And that was what happened. In her fourth year she was shipped off. [break][break]

Feeling abandoned, and unwanted Penelope figured that if it was a bad girl that their parents thought she was it was a bad girl they would get. Maybe even her Aunt would get tired and she could just be on her own. That would be better than the feigning interest that her family had in her. Really her aunt was too busy for her any with her fancy job, being the successful sister. Penny knew the only way they got her to agree was because she would be at the school most of the year anyway. School was strange. Her French was only fair. But parties were universal. So she would commit to it. Her hair being any color she felt. Stumbling into the dorm too late at night, waking up too early so she could fight her hang overs and finish her school work so at least her professors wouldn’t hate her. But now it;s the triwizard and Penny is sure that this could only spell some sort of disaster.
