For the most part, Thaddeus doesn't really care for other people, unless they share similar views to his own. He was raised to believe that pure blooded magic is the superior kind and, for the most part, that is the belief that he puts out there. The more people think he really believes it, the less likely they are to bother him. Thaddeus likes to be on his own, because most of the time there's just so much stupid falling out of their mouths that he'd be likely to have a more intelligent conversation with a wall. While he generally comes across as cold and uncaring, there is a part of him rather deep down that actually cares. Granted this isn't a care that extends to just anyone, but rather the people that he considers to be friends or closely allies himself with. While oftentimes it may come across that Thad is being aloof, he's really just observing and making mental notes. After all, the less he says, the more likely he is to hear that one little piece of information that could potentially let him destroy a person.

While he's generally very flippant and hard to read, there are a couple people that Thaddeus does actually let in. These people are practically sworn to some kind of secrecy though, and he rarely actually lets them have a look inside his mind, unless he truly trusts them. In saying that, Thaddeus is loyal to those he calls friends. If someone is starting a fight, he'll be there to back you up, or say that you had nothing to do with it. There's an exception to that, though. If he had to choose between your or himself, you can guarantee that you'd be the one getting thrown under the Knight Bus.

Thaddeus was born in 2009 to Nicolas and Joanna Grindelwald in Budapest, Hungary. He was their only child and from a young age, Nicolas did what he could to mold Thaddeus in his image. Her was a charmer who knew his way around the streets and the classrooms. At least, he would be. For the first half of his life, the Hungarian boy was home schooled as his parents were concerned about what kind of magic he would display. It had been known that the men in the family had rather violent displays of magic when it first began to manifest and the last thing the Grindelwald parents wanted was a lawsuit on their hands, especially if there was the chance of risking exposure to a muggle.

Sure enough, at the age of eight, he displayed his first sign of magic in a rather violent explosion in the house that lead to a fire. A good portion of the home was destroyed and the family had put thousands into renovations to make it like it was. At eleven, he was invited to attend Durmstrang Institute to further his studies and learn to actually control the magic that he had. On the way there, he got in with a group of kids who knew his name, they knew who his great-great grandfather was and they wanted to be his friends. Finding that he liked the attention, this was something that Thaddeus immediately agreed to. From that day on, he has basically stuck with the same group of people and, unfortunately, they are part of the reason his personality has shaped out how it has.

By his third year, he had successfully gotten into some kind of weird relationship with Raina Amsel. They were friends, but also enemies at the same time. They got along, but they thrived on the dislike that they had for one another. Like magnets, they were pulled together. Thaddeus never had an interest in dating the girl or being anything other than what they were. Quite simply, he used her to further himself and she used him as a punching bag, or occasionally someone to throw in her older brother's face when he got on her case. It was never a big deal to Thaddeus. Things seemed to change when an exchange student decided to come back to Durmstrang with her after the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Now, in between trying to gain more power, he's trying to figure out just what is going on.
